ESGR Volunteers Receive Department of Defense Medal

The prestigious Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service was presented to MA ESGR volunteers in two recent pinning ceremonies.

The first ceremony took place on May 9, 2008 at Westover ARB where Brig Gen Wade Farris did the honors and pinned the medal, one of the highest civilian volunteer awards, on Earl Bonett and Bob Cahillane.  Each recipient was recognized for his long and distinguished service as a member of the Massachusetts Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

The second ceremony took place at the Annual Awards and Recognition Dinner on May 17, 2008 where MG Joseph C. Carter, The Adjutant General for Massachusetts presented medals to Joseph Pentowski, Joachim-Ingo Borowski, Leo Lazo and Tom Boyle. They too were recognized for their many contributions to the growth and success of ESGR in the Commonwealth.

These events signify the first time that committee volunteers from Massachusetts were recognized with this important award. Congratulations and well done to all the recipients!

ESGR Committee member Joseph M. (Mitch) Pentowski is awarded the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Public Service at the ESGR Awards Dinner held on May 17, 2008. On hand to present the award was Major General Joseph C. Carter, Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard.
