One Day Bosslift to Bangor ANG Base Well Received!

Twenty-eight Massachusetts employers of National Guardsmen and Reservists had the unique opportunity to participate in a one day Bosslift to Bangor Air National Guard Base in Maine.  This once in a lifetime event, sponsored by the Massachusetts Committee for ESGR and supported by the 439th Airlift Wing at Westover ARB, provided incredible experiences for those fortunate enough to attend.

The day began early with employers “reporting” to Westover ARB for processing and security screening prior to a briefing and tour of the base.  This was followed by a visit to a USMC Reserve tenant unit and then back to the hangar area where preparations were made to board a C5B Galaxy for the flight to Bangor.  Most, if not all, of the employers had never flown on a military aircraft so the level of anticipation and excitement was quite high.

The flight toBangor was uneventful with several employers commenting on how smooth the landing was.  Once on the ground, the group was bussed to a luncheon hosted by the Maine ESGR committee.  Following lunch the employers were escorted to a tanker staging area where they were allowed to view a KC135 Jet Tanker, inside and out, listen to crew members and support personnel describe their aircraft and then ask as many questions as time permitted.  The afternoon ended with a very informative and interesting briefing by the wing commander, prior to everyone being escorted to the C5B for the return flight to Westover.

Upon arrival at Westover, the employers, tired but still enthusiastic stood together in a light rain to express appreciation for a very special day and to accept their official Bosslift Veteran Certificate.  It was obvious from the smiles on their faces that the memories of the Bangor Bosslift will not soon be forgotten!

Employers see first hand the "pre-flight inspection" prior to the return flight to Westover.

For many employers this was a once in a lifetime experience to observe first hand the leadership, management and technical skills training provided to their employees when they are serving with the Guard or Reserve.
