On  January 23rd, in historic Quincy, Mr. Jose Alvarez, CEO of Stop & Shop Inc., received an Above and Beyond Award for Stop & Shop’s outstanding support provided to its military member employees. Joining Mr. Alvarez in recognizing citizen soldiers was Major General Joseph Carter, the Adjutant General of the Massachusetts National Guard, Massachusetts State Chair Kenneth Forchielli, numerous company officials and ESGR members Joachim-Ingo Borowski and Roger Fortin. 

The presentation to award Stop & Shop began several months ago. It was initiated by a Patriot Award nomination from Captain Joe Pierre, a member of the Mass. Army National Guard.  Mr. Alvarez spoke glowingly about his employees who have served the Nation and about how proud he was to receive the award.  General Carter spoke of the importance of the relationship between Family, Military and the Employer.  Mr Forchielli spoke of how Stop & Shop had gone "Above and Beyond" in support of Captain Pierre and about the significance of the award. 

Mr. Alvarez, on behalf of the company and its over 150 military members, signed the ESGR Statement of Support.  This is certainly a major signing by a large Massachusetts corporation and it was an honor to meet General Carter, Captain Pierre and Mr. Alvarez
