The
Massachusetts Business Roundtable hosted the 2007 national conference of
business roundtable/ council executive directors from twenty states that was
held in
Chatham
October 15-17th. State business roundtables and councils are made up of
the CEOs or senior executives of major employers in those states. The
memberships vary from 35-100 employers depending on the size of the state.
Massachusetts
for example has 72 members representing the largest employers in the
Commonwealth.
The Massachusetts Committee for Employer Support
Guard and Reserve (ESGR) was invited to attend the reception and dinner on the
opening day of the conference and to provide a keynote speaker, in the person of
Dr. Gordon Sumner Executive Director of the National Committee for Employer
Support of the Guard and Reserve. Dr. Sumner’s presentation and
interaction with the business roundtable executive directors and the
participation of several leaders of the MA Committee for ESGR provided a perfect
employer outreach venue and made for a very successful event.
Each business roundtable or council executive
director received an ESGR packet that included a Statement of Support and ESGR
contact information for his or her state committee.
Alan Macdonald
, Executive Director for the Massachusetts Business Roundtable (MBR) signed a
Statement of Support following Dr. Sumner’s remarks. Other executive
directors expressed interest in signing, then and there, but decided a signing
at home would be far more meaningful.
The MBR has become a major strategic partner and
a strong advocate for ESGR. In recognition of his support and advocacy,
Mr. Macdonald was presented the “Above and Beyond Award” by Dr. Tom Mulvaney,
MA Committee for ESGR Employer Outreach Director.
Also representing the MA Committee for ESGR were
Vice Chair Tom Boyle, Area Chair/Ombudsman Coordinator
Earl Bonett
, Executive Director
Joseph Ryan
, and State Chairman Kenneth Forchielli.
