"5-Star" Statement of Support for the National Guard and Reserve Signed by the TJX Companies, Inc.

Arlington, VA—Employer Support of Guard and Reserves (ESGR), a U.S. Department of Defense agency dedicated to gaining and maintaining active support from public and private employers for the men and women of the National Guard and Reserve, announced today that The TJX Companies, Inc. signed the ESGR “5-Star” Statement of Support signifying the Company’s pledge to support its employees active in the National Guard and Reserve. TJX President and Chief Executive Officer, Carol Meyrowitz, signed the Statement today at TJX’s Home Office in Framingham, Massachusetts along with many TJX associates on hand for the ceremony.

“TJX is proud to have Associates who serve their country, and we’re pleased to join other retailers like Home Depot, Sears and Wal-Mart in signing a “5-Star” Statement of Support,” said Carol Meyrowitz, President and CEO, The TJX Companies, Inc.

In addition to Ms. Meyrowitz, Thomas F. Hall, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Reserve Affairs, and Dr. L. Gordon Sumner Jr., Executive Director, National Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, attended the signing at TJX. Medal of Honor recipient Captain Thomas J. Hudner Jr. USN (Ret.), the past State Chair for the Massachusetts Committee for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve was also in attendance.

Kenneth Forchielli, Massachusetts ESGR Chairman stated, “Supportive employers are essential to maintaining the strength and readiness of the nation’s National Guard and Reserve units. TJX’s commitment to its employees serving in the Guard and Reserve was the driving force that made this signing possible. The decision to have a signed and framed Statement of Support distributed to every store nationwide sends a very strong message to Associates and customers alike. TJX truly supports, in word, spirit, and deed their employees who serve America in the National Guard and Reserve.”

The “5-Star” Statement of Support confirms TJX:

Supports Associates who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
Reviewed its Human Resources policies to ensure compliance with the Uniformed Services Employment and Re-Employment Rights Act (USERRA).
Promotes training for managers and supervisors to effectively manage Associates who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
Adopted policies and programs that are “Above and Beyond” what is required by the USERRA Law.
Is an advocate for Associate service in the National Guard and Reserve and will help to promote the mission of ESGR.
