The Tuesday Club of Freetown is a group of women residents of the area
who get together, appropriately enough, on Tuesdays at the Freetown Senior
Center to socialize and perform charitable efforts for the area. Among their
many efforts was a campaign to collect, package and ship over thirty boxes of
toys to a unit of the First Division in the Baghdad Area of Operations. The unit
then distributed the toys throughout the small villages outside of Northern
Baghdad to hundreds of children. For their efforts they have been rewarded with
a certificate from the Big Red One and a flag that flew over their base camp.
The New Bedford Standard Times published an article about their efforts.
On February 6, Vice-Chairman Dave St. Germain
presented a Mass ESGR Certificate of Appreciation to the Club at one of their
general meetings. Accepting the Certificate for the membership was Nancy Van
Nostrand. On hand for the presentation were approximately 22 members of the
Club.
