On February 20, ESGR representatives took part in a Civic Leader Flight
sponsored by the 439th Airlift Wing at Westover Joint Forces Reserve Base,
MA. The flight to Davis-Monthan AFB, Arizona included a refueling of our C-5
Galaxy by a KC-10 tanker from another AF Reserve unit.

Talk about up close and personal, the two aircraft were
separated by about 30 feet during the refueling, a thrilling experience to
say the least. Upon landing at DM, the tour members were given a bus tour of
the Aircraft Salvage and Regeneration Facility were over 4,000 military
aircraft are preserved in row after row storage in the desert.
There are 34 billion dollars worth of aircraft at the
facility.
In addition, members were briefed on the A-10 Thunderbolt
II and its mission, visited with members of an Air Force Reserve rescue
group and inspected the base control tower and training simulator.
A good time was had by all and everyone returned with a
better knowledge of what their Guard and Reserve member employees are doing
on those drill weekends and mobilizations.
